Prior to the demolition of the offices at Woodland Point, Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service asked if they could use the building for crucial training for their teams, Oliver liaised with the property owners and Fire Service to arrange a suitable time and date, Oliver then attended the site to give access to the Services on Sunday, below is a short write up and letter of thanks.
On the 9th October with kind thanks to Oliver Triggs and Katar Investments, Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service held a training exercise at Woodland Point, Wootton Mount in Bournemouth. The exercise was attended by crews and appliances from Poole, Westbourne, Springbourne and Redhill with a total of 20 firefighters taking part. The exercise was a simulation of a building which was smoke logged where a number of casualties were still trapped within. Using synthetic smoke and obscuration masks which ensured zero visibility, crews made progress in full fire kit to the 2nd and 3rd floors and then searched in zero visibility for a number of casualties. The building and its layout lent itself perfectly for crews to practice various search techniques and tested them to the full.
The opportunity to use a building like this for realistic training does not happen often and the service appreciates the time and effort Oliver put in to making this happen. Scenarios like this, in an unfamiliar building, tests the crew and our processes to the full.
